Flexible Hose Solutions for Industry and Technology

Spiral hoses are indispensable components in industry when it comes to flexible yet robust hose solutions. Thanks to their characteristic spiral structure, they offer an exceptional combination of elasticity, dimensional stability, and space-saving design.

Spiral Hoses—Flexible All-Rounders

They can be easily extended and return to their original shape after use, making them particularly well-suited for applications with limited space or frequently changing work positions.

Versatile Applications

In addition, spiral hoses are characterized by their high resistance to mechanical stress. They are resistant to abrasion, pressure, and—depending on the material—chemical exposure as well. They are therefore suitable for a wide range of applications, such as in compressed air technology, mechanical engineering, or the food industry.

What is a spiral hose?

A spiral hose is a flexible hose characterized by its spiral-shaped structure. This design gives it high flexibility, elasticity, and dimensional stability. A key feature of spiral hoses is their integrated spiral reinforcement. Depending on the application, this reinforcement can consist of spring steel wire, stainless steel wire, rigid PVC, or plastic-coated materials. This design not only gives the hose its high flexibility but also ensures stability and resistance to kinking. Functionality is maintained even under heavy use.

What materials are typically used for spiral hoses?

We process technically sophisticated plastics, fabrics, and films into high-quality industrial hoses and innovative connection solutions. In doing so, we draw on many years of experience in the field of polymeric materials, as well as fabrics and films, and their processing.

PUR/PU

Das Bild zeigt einen transparenten Masterflex-Schlauch

Most of the hoses used to extract and convey abrasive solids are made of high-performance polyurethane

PVC

Masterflex: Master-PVC Flex polyvinyl chloride hose

PVC is versatile. However, PVC's temperature resistance and abrasion resistance are significantly lower than those of polyurethane.

PE

Das Bild zeigt einen Schlauch aus PE

Polyethylene (PE) is characterized by its high resistance to acids, alkalis, and chemicals. The material has much higher chemical resistance than PU.

PA

Das Bild zeigt einen Schlauch aus PA

Polyamide (PA) is characterized by excellent sliding and wear properties, dry-running capabilities, resistance to dirt, and chemical resistance.

TPV

Das Bild zeigt einen Masterflex-Spiralschlauch aus TPV

TPV is a special type of plastic belonging to the elastomer group (rubber-like materials) that combines the unique advantages of rubber and thermoplastics.

What are the special characteristics of spiral hoses?

  • High flexibility and bendability: They are extremely flexible and can be twisted without kinking, making them ideal for tight spaces.
  • Kink resistance: The integrated spiral ensures consistent flow even at tight bends.
  • Vacuum and pressure resistance: They are excellent for use as suction hoses as well as for medium- to high-pressure applications.
  • Durability and abrasion resistance: Many spiral hoses are particularly resistant to pressure, abrasion, weather conditions, and chemicals.
  • Retraction: Many models automatically retract to their compact form after use.
  • Lightweight: Compared to other reinforced hoses, they are often lighter and easier to handle.

In what colors are spiral hoses available?

From black to transparent, anything is possible: Our hoses are available in RAL colors, allowing you, for example, to identify different fluids or use a color-coding system.

Black

Das Bild zeigt einen schwarzen Spiralschlauch von Masterflex

Black is the standard color for many hoses and spiral hoses used in industrial applications.

Transparent

Das Bild zeigt einen transparenten Masterflex-Schlauch

Transparent tubing is primarily used when the flow of the medium needs to be visible.

Red

Das Bild zeigt einen roten Masterflex-Spiralschauch

Red is often used for compressed air, hot fluids, or other lines that need to be clearly identified.

Green

Das Bild zeigt einen grünen Spiralschlauch

Typical applications for green hoses include cooling water, water, compressed air, and industrial gases.

Yellow

Yellow is used primarily because it is highly visible and allows for clear identification.

The Right Hose Diameter for Your Application

The diameters of spiral hoses vary widely depending on the application. The specification usually refers to the inner diameter (ID). Diameters range from small nominal sizes (typically 10–13 mm and up) to large diameters in the range of 500 mm or more, depending on the specific hose type. Diameters are usually specified as the inner diameter in millimeters (DN—Nominal Diameter).

In addition to standard sizes, custom nominal diameters are often available upon request.

No, spiral hoses generally require little maintenance. However, they should be inspected regularly for wear, cracks, or buildup to ensure a long service life and safe use.

  • How do I find the right coiled hose?

The selection depends on several factors, such as temperature resistance, pressure requirements, the medium (e.g., air, liquids, solids), and the location of use (indoor or outdoor). We recommend consulting with our experts.

  • In which areas are spiral hoses used?

Typical applications include: the food and beverage industry, the chemical industry, mechanical and plant engineering, agriculture and horticulture, and extraction and conveying systems

  • Are spiral hoses UV-resistant?

Yes, many of Masterflex's spiral hoses are UV-resistant and therefore ideal for outdoor use. They remain durable and resilient even under intense sunlight.

  • How heat-resistant are spiral hoses?

Heat resistance depends on the specific material. Many spiral hoses are designed for high temperatures and retain their shape and function even under continuous heat exposure. There are special versions available for particularly extreme temperature ranges.

  • Are spiral hoses food-safe?

Yes, Masterflex offers special spiral hoses that are food-safe and comply with applicable EU directives. These hoses are tasteless, hygienic, and ideal for transporting food and beverages.

  • What are the advantages of spiral hoses?

Spiral hoses stand out for their high flexibility, kink resistance, and durability. In addition, many types are heat-resistant, UV-resistant, and suitable for use in demanding conditions. This makes them ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.

  • What types of spirals are there in spiral hoses?

With our spiral hoses, you have a choice—between a spiral made of spring steel wire, stainless steel wire, rigid PVC, or a plastic-coated spiral. The plastic sheathing protects the spiral from external mechanical stress. The spiral pitch can also be customized.
